The Raven Legacy of a Master Thief Review

Hallo an alle.  This week I'm going to be reviewing the German point and click adventure game called, The Raven-Legacy of a Master Thief.  I remember when I first found this game back in 2013 right after playing Secret Files Tunguska.  I was amazed that there were new point and click games being released as during this time as games like this seem to be going extinct.  However, I’m happy to say that they are slowly making a come back.

Since I’m reviewing the original version of the game instead of the new one, I’m going to keep my focus on what I remember happening in the original instead of talking about the remastered version of the game.  That and I haven’t had a chance to play the remastered version yet so hopefully I can in the future.  So let's get started!

The Raven Legacy of a Master Thief: Cops at First Raven Theft

"Taking place in 1964, the plot revolves around a set of rubies known as the Eyes of the Sphinx one of which was stolen by an unknown person wearing a mask, and the other must by guarded by the player's character as it is transported to an exhibition in Cairo Egypt. Contrary to common detective genre conventions, you play as middle-aged Swiss police constable Anton Jakob Zellner, a bumbler who manages to stumble his way through this case which a non-playable well-respected detective known as Nicolas Legrand is also on. Though he has a fond interest in detective novels, Zellner has little experience in detective work."

The Raven Legacy of a Master Thief: Anton Jakob Zellner

The Raven is an episodic style game based on 3 different Chapters as we play Anton Jakob Zellner, a constable who loves mysteries and would love a chance at getting to solve one himself.  I’m not sure why but this game almost seems like a lighter version of an Agatha Christie story.  Since during the first chapter were mostly selected on a train, I kept being reminded of Agatha Christie’s game Murder on the Orient Express.  Ironically, the train in the first chapter is named the same.  As you play though the game, I felt they did a great job building up the questions about the Raven and who is he.

When it come to the graphics of the original game, lets just say that a my computer acted like it was dying while trying to play back in 2013 or my early 2003 computer… or I think it was a model from 2003… I can’t remember, anyway the game definitely needed a computer that could run high graphics.  Another thing I notice was it was a little dark.  The dark shadows somewhat made it hard for me to see but I find that it was trying to create the setting to be a little more mysterious.  Still I found the world of the game beautiful and I was in love with how realistic it looked at the time.

The Raven Legacy of a Master Thief: Cruise Ship

When it comes to voice acting, its a little stale and flat.  I was really hoping for the characters to had more emotion when they spoke but they just seemed to be adding only a small amount of emotion.  That and it seems like they're reading from a script instead of bringing the characters to life.  Overall the game is a super fun adventure game.  Though there is room for improvement, I really enjoyed the storyline and how all the pieces of the puzzle fit together at the end.

Thank you all for reading.  I had so much fun playing this game and I really hope more games like this are made int he future.  So what do you think about the original The Raven game?  Is it better than Remastered version or if the Remastered better?  I would love to know down int he comments below.  If you want to get a copy of the game for yourself, you can get the original version of the game over on Steam.  You can also get both original and remastered versions of the game on Steam for a two for one deal.

Until next time,
