If there's one game that I love more than anything, its games where you can affect the storyline with the choices you make. For todays review I'm reviewing Life Is Strange, an episodic graphic adventure video game made by Dontnod Entertainment and published by Square Enix. This game was one of the first games that I have ever played with this style of game play.
The story is about a girl named Maxine (Max) Caulfield who moved back to Arcadia Bay, Oregon to finish 12th grade at a very well known art school. After attending her photography class, she leaves and goes to the girl’s room to where she witnesses a murder of another girl. As she reaches out her hand to try to stop the girl from dying she suddenly rewinds time back to her class repeating that same scenario again. This gives you a chance to save her life a change the path of the story…
This game has 5 episodes that follows Max and the progression of how she got her powers and how she uses them. Though this game follows a strict storyline, there is so much freedom on how you can follow the story. Without giving too much away, each decision you make in my opinion feels so personal. When interacting with all the characters available I was always trying to be nice to everyone and be helpful as this is the kind of person that I am in my everyday life. I felt that this kind of allowed me to see how my small acts of kindness in the game can truly affect people with out you even knowing it.
Life Is Strange: Chloe and Max on Railroad Tracks |
For the storyline, I was I capture by the story of Max and Chloe, and what their friendship meant to them. I found that in a way, their friendship was holding the story together as a way of showing that no matter where you are, your friends will always be there for you as they are like family. Based on how they interacted with each other, I felt that they were more than just friends, they were in a way more like sisters on how they would always try and protect the other, stand up for them, and always be there for them. Without going to much more into the storyline and giving spoilers, I just want to say that in the end, this game made me very emotional as the final decision was heart breaking no matter which way you chose to go.
Thank you for reading everyone! I had so much fun playing this game, even if this game made me cry a little. If you want to play this game, then you can play it on Steam, PS4, and Xbox One. You can also can play episode 1 for Free before getting the whole game! So, have you play Life Is Strange, and if you have, what did you think about it? I would love to know in the comments below.
Until next time,
