Marcella Moon: Secret on the Hill Review

As summer roles around, I'm always looking for another mystery to solve and the newest game Marcella Moon: Secret on the Hill is exactly what I was looking for!  Marcella Moon is a new point and click adventure game series created by Renee at Marcella Moon Mysteries.  Marcella Moon, is
an amateur sleuth who loves to solves mysteries.  Secret on the Hill is the first game in the Marcella Moon series and was released on June 16th, 2020.  I want to thank Renee, the creator of the game, for reaching out to me and giving me the opportunity to play Marcella Moon: Secret on the Hill!  So let's get started!

Secret on the Hill: Amelia Goldstone

Game Description
Follow Marcella Moon as she travels to Sligo, Ireland to investigate the disappearance of the famous writer, Amelia Goldstone.  Some in Sligo say she simply wanted to disappear, while others believe she was kidnapped by fairies.  It's up to Marcella Moon to find out the truth of Amelia Goldstones disappearance.  While also exploring Irish culture, mythology, and talk to the locals in order to solve this mystery.

Secret on the Hill:  Rowan Tree Inn

Gameplay/Controls
I had so much fun playing Secret on the Hill.  When it came to the controls, I found that it was very easy to move around and reach each location in the game.  The game's point and click system made it super easy to navigate around in Sligo and it gave me a nostalgic feeling from other point and click adventure games that I've played in the past.  The game has about 1 - 3 hours worth of gameplay which is perfect if you want to play a simple fun game.

Secret on the Hill: Sligo

Storyline
I really enjoyed the storyline of the game.  It flowed very well as Marcella discovered more about Amelia's disappearance.  With each new piece of information I discovered, the more new questions arose.  Without giving away any spoilers, I will admit that I was stumped on who could possibly be the villain in the game.  I just felt that everyone was trustworthy since it seemed that each character wore their emotions on their sleeve.  Normally, I have a sixth sense on each of the characters, however this time, I wanted to believe in every character was innocent and that maybe there was another explanation.  In the end, everything was revealed to me and it all finally clicked.

Secret on the Hill: Geometrics Puzzle

Puzzles
Though the game is short, I really enjoyed the simplicity of the puzzles that were presented in the game.  The puzzles in the game are logic based which makes them very easy to solve.  I think one of my favorite puzzles in the game was the geometrics puzzle.  The goal was to place each shape/color in a row and column were there was no duplicating colors or shapes.  I will admit this puzzle was one of the most difficult for me due to the controls, as each piece seemed to fly around the board or get stuck to other pieces, but I think that's what made it fun as I tried to piece this fun puzzle together.

Secret on the Hill: Sligo Town Square

Game World
I had so much fun exploring the cute little town of Sligo.  I will admit that this game not only reminded me of the Nancy Drew series, which the game is based around the similar theme, but it also reminded me of the classic game Return to Zork.  Just like this game, you were given the chance to explore the town, talk to the local residents and learn more about what was happening in the town and you were given the opportunity to play the game in your own style as it gave you the ability to choose what you wanted to do first.

Thank you everyone for reading!  I had so much fun playing Marcella Moon: Secret on the Hill!  I would highly recommend checking out the game for yourself.  You can find the game on Steam at Marcella Moon: Secret on the Hill.
Again, I want to thank Renee
at Hidden Ocean Games for the opportunity to play this game.  I cannot wait to solve another Marcella Moon mystery.  If you're looking for more review on similar games you can check out my other Game Reviews!
