Shadow at the Water's Edge: The Ryokan Hiei |
Game Description
"Nancy Drew heads for Japan where she’s staying at a traditional ryokan (inn) for a little R&R with Bess and George, but when reports of a vengeful ghost start scaring away the guests, Nancy’s vacation takes a turn for terror! It’ll be up to you, as Nancy Drew, to uncover the secret that lies beneath the surface, before the ghost can take its revenge!"
Storyline
I absolutely love the storyline of investigating a haunted ryokan. In a place where peace and quiet is set to be the most important aspect, also hold a dark and spooky secret. The Ryokan Hiei is a traditional Japanese inn that is run by the Shimizu family. They face unexpected hauntings which is scaring guest away and making it impossible for them to keep their doors open. With some of the hauntings that I've seen in the game, its no wonder why people were packing up and leaving. I personally loved this storyline, however, what I didn't like was how insensitive Nancy was when it came of the Shimizu family death. She was very rude about asking about her to the point of is being painful to listen too. But if you ignore this aspect of the storyline then everything else was pretty good.Shadow at the Water's Edge: Katakana Puzzle |
Puzzles
This game has to be the king of puzzles! I absolutely adored all the fun little book puzzles and the bento (I am the bento queen and no one can tell me otherwise!). However, I absolutely hate the master sudoko puzzle. This game is super puzzle heavy and though many of them are fun and easy. They do add a layer of a challenge in the game but sometimes it makes it little too challenging.Shadow at the Water's Edge: Matsue Train Station |
World/Graphics
I absolutely love the location in this game. We get to experience both classic Japanese culture and the city. It really gives you the ability to see both side the what Japan has to offer. I would have loved to explore more of the game in daylight not just nighttime as it would have been so pretty.I absolutly love how the music focus on three different types. One being the happy city style music, the calm traditional style for the ryokan, and the creepy and scary music before the ghost come to get you! I absolutely love all the different kinds of music in this game and its probably some of my favorite to listen to in my off time.
Thank you everyone for reading and I hope that you can enjoy all the spooky and scary jump scares this game has to offer.
