Sherlock Holmes The Silver Earring Review

Back in June, Dani and I decided to stream Sherlock Holmes The Silver Earring.  This was the only Sherlock Holmes game that Dani and I had yet to play out of the older games (excluding the Mummy Mystery as that game has been annoying to set up on new computers, which I did get it to work).  Now after completing the game its time to finally write my review of the game!  Sherlock Holmes The Silver Earring Was released September 30, 2004 by Frogwares.  So let's get started!

The Silver Earring: Sherlock Investigating Melvyn Bromsby

Game Description
"At a reception organised in honour of his daughter, Melvyn Bromsby, a rich tycoon, is about to make an important announcement concerning his future business affairs when, all of a sudden, a shot rings out. Sir Bromsby collapses, having suffered a mortal wound to the heart...

A baffling murder, dozens of witnesses and numerous places to visit around Victorian London. You play Sherlock Holmes, and use all your skills to shed light on this mysterious case."

The Silver Earring: Watson at Flatham Station

Storyline
When it comes to the storyline in this game, I thought it was written very well, though a bit odd in the villain(s).  In the beginning you are believing that you are hunting a single individual before it transition into a whole gang, before going back to 1 or should I say 2 villains.  Though the back and forth was a little tiring.  Especially the ending!  At the end of the game where you get to capture the villains there is a 20 minute dialogue of Sherlock explaining from beginning to end what happened in the case and the reasons for each event up until the very end.  Personally, everyone in our chat started to join us in poking at how long the ending was.  If you want the long cliff notes I would sit and watch the whole thing play out.  Which Dani and I were highly confused so it was needed, though I don't think it needed to be 20 minutes long.

Puzzles
The puzzles in the game are somewhat difficult compared to some of the other Sherlock Holmes games.  Some of the puzzles are based on logic which aren't too difficult to solve.  However, there is one puzzle where you're supposed to get past a dog and a night guard.  This is one of the most difficult puzzles in this game and you need to save before hand incase you fail.  Otherwise you have to start at your last save point.  It was also kind of annoy due to how difficult it was to try and get past these characters.  It did not help that the game was glitched which made it 10x harder to solve.  But we persevered and managed to solve it.

The Silver Earring: Forest

World/Graphics
I absolutely loved exploring the world.  Especially the broken aspect of it on my computer as characters looked like they were floating in the air and glitching though objects.  Though this did not happen all the time, it was pretty funny when it did happened at the most serious parts of the game.  It almost deviates from the seriousness we were supposed to hold for the case.  Now for these glitches, it possible that because of how new my computer is that could be the reason why these strange things happened.  However, these glitches did not affect the game play in anyway other than deviate from trying to treat this case seriously.

Music/Soundtrack
The game music in Sherlock Holmes has always been some of the best game music around, (Other than Nancy Drew of course) I've always been partial to classical music and the music in this game always gives a feeling of suspense, yet quick thinking. My favorite of course being track titled Shuman.  I don't know what it is about this track but I hear it and I instantly think of the famous detective.  If you ever want to listen to it, on steam if you buy the Sherlock Holmes Bundle or the Frogwares Bundle you will get all the Sherlock Holmes music (Frogwares Bundle will give you all the game music they have ever made for all there games)!
