Rise of the Tomb Raider Review

When Rise of The Tomb Raider was first released, I just starting to play Tomb Raider. During the Christmas of 2017, I was given a physical 20th edition of the game, coming in a hard cover note book style case, showing off fan art from all around the word of Laura Croft. After 12 hours of game play over the course of the last 8 months, I've finally finished the game. Rise of the Tomb Raider was released by Square Enix on November 10th, 2015. So let's get started!

Rise fo the Tomb Raider: The Prophets Tomb

Game Description
Rise of the Tomb Raider focus on finding the legendary city of Kitezh, while fighting Trinity before they reach the cities promise of immortality.  Laura is picking up not only from the last Tomb Raider game (2013) but from where her father left off in his search for the source of immortality. The storyline also expanded on Laura as a character to help explain why who she is and why she has made the choices she has, along with what it means to her about finding immortality.

Graphics
When it comes to the design of the game it is flawless.  As I say about all of the games I’ve played, the graphics were very realistic, and I was amazed at how smooth everything ran on my console.  I played this version of the game on PS4 and it looked amazing.  I loved exploring the dry desert in the beginning, the snow filled mountains, and the spring valley bellow.

Storyline
Throughout Rise of the Tomb Raider, I felt that Laura was embracing the new path she has taken as the Tomb Raider.  However, I can see how she is battling mentally on what she wants to do and what’s right. This is also kind of the theme for the next game the developers where talking about it.  Based off of her decisions she can basically be considered the villain in the game because of how she goes about her search.  This was definitely a eye opener on what Laura things compared to what you want to think.

Puzzles
There was so much to explore and do in the game.  The side missions also helped expand the game play so much, adding additional storylines and side missions you can complete to earn extra rewards for Laura.  Though I haven’t completed every side mission, the few that I have completed were really well made and I had a blast playing them.  Including the Baba Yaga story.  There was so much more behind this sideline story and it really emphasizes on the not everything you see is real.  The puzzle mechanics were probably one of the fun parts to play as long as I wasn't being chased by anything.  The puzzles really made you think outside the box and look at all the possible ways to solve each one.

Thank you everyone for reading.  I had a blast playing this game and I can't wait to play Shadow of the Tomb Raider.  If you haven't yet, check out my review for Tomb Raider Review to see what I thought of the first game in the series.  If you looking for more games to play then check out my Game Reviews page as it hold all the links to my reviews!

  2. I love the Tomb Raider games and played the first three on my Windows 95 PC when they were first released. Showing my age! My favourite was Tomb Raider 4 where you started off playing as a teenage Lara Croft. I'm looking forward to playing the new game.
