For over the last year, I've really wanted to review some of the Assassin's Creed games on my blog. I have spend so much time playing each of the games, however, due to time constants I was never able to do this before now! My idea has final turned into reality with being able to finally have time to sit down and write my review for Assassin's Creed Black Flag! Black Flag was my first AC game that I played without Daniella (The Little Book Spy). So I thought it was only fitting that this would be my first AC review. Assassin's Creed Black was created by Ubisoft and was released on October 29th, 2013. So let's get started!
Assassin's Creed Black Flag: Edward Kenway |
Game Description
"The year is 1715. Pirates rule the Caribbean and have established their own lawless Republic where corruption, greediness and cruelty are commonplace.Among these outlaws is a brash young captain named Edward Kenway.
Among these outlaws is a brash young captain named Edward Kenway. His fight for glory has earned him the respect of legends like Blackbeard, but also drawn him into the ancient war between Assassins and Templars, a war that may destroy everything the pirates have built.
Welcome to the Golden Age of Piracy."
Storyline
I really enjoyed Edward's story as he turned from ruthless pirate to more of a pirate Assassin. This transition really showed his conflicting views of not wanting to care about anything but himself to also wanting to do the right thing. Though he tried to act as if he didn't care about people in need or when people were in trouble, it was clear that he would in the end create reasons of motives on why he would help someone else out knowing that his excuse was in a way a cover story for his true feelings.
For the overall story I really enjoyed learning about how Edward affected the Assassin's Brotherhood and how he grew as a character. I will admit that the end of the main storyline felt a little anticlimactic. The story felt like it was leading to such a huge important scene in the storyline but in my opinion it seemed just a little flat.

Gameplay
Out of all the older Assassin's Creed games, Black Flag has some of the best controls when it comes to walking/running, fighting, and navel combat. I found it very easy to transition to these controls even after playing Assassin's Creed Odyssey. Though you can't climb up everything like in AC Origin or AC Odyssey, they're still a ton of items available that allow you to climb and explore everything in the world. I also love how they design the navel combat system and the controls of driving the Jackdaw.Music
I really enjoyed listening to the music in the game. I found that it was so upbeat and fun to listen to during the game. I especially loved end song that Anne Boney sung in the end. I felt that it was probably one of the best ways to end the game. I will admit, however, on some of the longer voyages that the crews singing on the boat did become a little bit repetitive and annoying. It wasn't until about halfway through the game that I realized that I could turn off the singing, it was enjoyable when I first listened to it.World/Graphics
Black Flag has some of the most beautiful graphics. The ocean water was so blue, the lighting on the island made me feel as if I was on a tropical vacation where I basically got to be a pirate, look for buried treasure, loot and plunder other ships. The design for everything was so beautiful that I could spend hours just driving my boat around and exploring the scenery. There was so much to explore that I still haven't finished exploring everything as I've literally run out of money and upgrade abilities because I haven't found them all yet. But that means I have another reason to go back and play more Assassin's Creed Black Flag and explore this island paradise.Thank you everyone for reading! I loved playing Black Flag and I will have to admit that it is one of my favorite Assassin's Creed games that I have ever played! I loved everything about this game, especially the navel aspect of it, even though it could be challenging at time. If you haven't checked out this game yet then I would highly recommend this game. Also check out my other Game Reviews for new recommendations of games that I have played.
Until next time,
