Against the Storm Demo Review

Another day, another simulation city building game! This game has been on my radar for a little while and I'm happy to announce that I have finally gotten the chance to sit down and play the demo for the game.  As you know I love playing the game Banished as it is one of my favorite city building games.  Over the last few weeks, I've been dying to play Against the Storm demo and I had finally got the chance to sit down and play it!  So let's get started!

Against the Storm Demo: Queen's Castle

Game Description
Banished meets Slay the Spire

Against the Storm is a roguelite city builder set in a fantasy world where it never stops raining. You are the Queen’s viceroy — a pioneer sent into the wilds to establish and manage new settlements inhabited by beavers, lizards, and humans.

Your goal is to survive long enough and gather the valuable resources necessary to rebuild and upgrade the Smouldering City. It’s the only safe haven against the Blightstorm — a vile cycle of destruction ravaging everything in its path. Do you have what it takes to weather the storm?

Gameplay
I think my favorite part about this game is how it was influence by Banished, which is one of my favorite city building games!  First the game starts you off with 2 species from each of the 3 types, humans, beavers, and lizards.  Each of these kinds of people.  In the game, you are required to build up your settlement and complete tasks.  Each task you complete will please your queen and it will also improve your settlement.  One thing that I would recommend to the game play is possibly have a greater ability to have your people who are either gathers or hunters have the ability to continue hunting in a single area and not having to move your building every time resources run out.  This aspect makes it a little difficult since there's no way for workers to be a little more resourceful with their environment.

Town Management
I love the set up for managing each of the towns people.  I was able to see what each group preferred to work on and by placing them in these specific jobs made them super happy and they worked extra hard to complete their tasks.  This definitely helped the production of items and decreasing the time spent on building homes and other workplaces.  I personally really like how the structure of the game was set up and how each group influenced your town along with how favoritism towards one group could cause the rest to be unhappy.  This definitely was an interesting factor that I dabble with to help improve each of the groups and their productivity.

World/Graphics
The world in the game is absolutely beautiful!  I just love the rich deep blue and green around the map and I just love how the rain create a such a peaceful tranquility, so as long as you have enough house for you villagers, everything should be turn out all right.  I loved the rainy atmosphere and how it brought out a bit more of a darker side of a city building game.
